Communication ≠ Connection

It’s important not to confuse communication with connection. Facebook, texts, emails…

Communication is an important part of community, but it’s not the same as meaningful connection. People need meaningful, real-life connections outside their immediate family to be healthy.

While running on this treadmill of life, how many people do we really connect with and foster real relationships with anymore?

And what about moving from digital connection to personal relationship? Are we “too busy” all the time? Do others see us as unapproachable?

I’ve always considered relationships a critical part of my life, and also my identity.

Humans need a dozen or two connected and nurtured relationships.

Connections come only from regular, sustained effort, though.

It is said that humans should strive to connect with 3-5 people in meaningful ways every day.

I hear that number, and I’m not sure, as a widow, if I can pull that off–outside of my kids.

However, I can start with at least one or two.

I can make at least one reach-out part of my daily routine.

Reaching a hand out to the light
