November. And it’s time to write… #NaBloPoMo

November, with its season of penciled promises, is here.

This time of year calls to me like fresh-baked bread and warm butter at midnight. Or a cream-curved, medium-roasted cuppa near my water lilies.

A complex aroma of pleasant memories from pensive times.

November writing challenges abound these days. They’re not all NaNoWriMo or NaBloPoMo anymore. My heart smiles at the thought of new writers arriving. Welcome to the world, new ones.

I’ve decided to participate. Reasons are tangled; rather messy, really.

But… I need to write to breathe again. Not just write to survive.
An internal siren, hardly new.

My writing’s gotten serious. Dead serious. In pursuit of survivorship. In pursuit of causes. Better, certainly, but perhaps more business and clinical. Time is an unforgiving task master.

Tracing the words of my more youthful musings, back before…. I’m not sure if it’s ironic or tragic that I didn’t think I could breathe back then. Before.

I’m hella surprised that anyone has stuck around to read the things I’ve thought and given wing to. For those of you who have, and for those of you also taking up this challenge, I thank you.

I once wrote that the world needed more love letters. I believe that more than ever before.

I also believe that the world needs more writers. Counterintuitive as that may sound, given how saturated the market is.

But here’s the thing.

We die.

Simply put. We die.

And everything we’ve ever known, or learned, or pondered– disappears with us. All that work, all that energy, all that effort, every idea, every memory ever stored– gone.

Our souls may benefit in a life after death, but without discourse, sharing, and leaving messages behind… no one else will.

My heart has always ached for the human story. I wonder what our descendants, 2000 years from now, will ask about us.

So… here I am. Gathered and showing up, slightly late to the ball.

I’ve tripped on my dress, and my hair’s a bit mussed. But the music calls.
Or haunts; I’m not sure which.

Might pick a wall to hold up. Hopefully some punch is left. cheerpeppers.com - NaBloPoMo 2026
