Once upon a time, I used to do the right and proper thing by coffee.
Putting it in a travel mug when I needed to drive the kids to school.
But not anymore.
Coffee has tamed me enough over the years, that we can now travel together in peace.
Clutched to my heart, I ride today with my favorite morning beverage in a mere mug.
I think it tastes better that way.
What a visage I must be, pulling up to the school.
Hunched over the steering wheel. In my plaid pajamas and winter coat.
Mug clutched to breast bone. Crochet hook pinned back in my hair.
Thankfully neither my kids nor their friends seem to mind.
Piling out of the car I call to them. “Have a good day!”
“I will endeavor to try,” my daughter smiles and wryly returns.
“There is no try. There is only do!” I say.
“Ugh! Go away Mom,” she giggles. “I love you.”
And off she goes, books in hand, chopsticks in hair.
I love you too dear.
Coffee pressed to breast, I pull away smiling.
A little more alert and with a full heart.
I’m such a geek.
Coffee DOES taste better in a mug. And children have no idea what those three little words can do to your heart. Sounds like the start of a fantastic day for you, Julia!
Hehe, yep! It was. 🙂 Thanks Candace!
Booyah!
😀 Thanks Doug!
ahhh … bittersweet is the relationship with the dark brew! We gladly trade ALL for its caress upon our lips!
I accidentally made decaf 2 days in a row last May and suffered the consequences, believing I had a brain tumor! Vertigo and a migraine that felt like fire ants crawling all over my brain revealed the depth of my dependence. I am now gently weaning myself from coffee, saddened by the departure of my beloved and all the memories that go with it…. wondering if I will endure the slow fog over my brain that lingers each day.
I envy you your plaid PJs! ;))
LOL! I did that 4 years ago this month Donna! The story even made it to my blog: https://aberrantcrochet.wordpress.com/2011/01/25/and-the-painful-truth-shall-set-you-free. John still hasn’t quite forgiven me. We have a nice bone white canister in our home labeled “Decaf Shit” in Sharpie now. (Not my doing.)
My plaid PJs are men’s of course, Kenneth Cole. A Christmas special that sold out in our store this year, but perhaps you can find them online? They have good pockets and are sooooo comfortable and cozy…. 🙂 Highly recommend.
Your post, along with the comments, just made me laugh so much — thank you! (Reduced to 1/2 reg, 1/2 decaf and doing ok so far….) As for the PJs, will have to poke around. We have a KC outlet near the Meadowlands.(where the SuperBowl was last year) And then, there is always Marshalls, probably my fave store of all time… xo 😀
You may be a geek, but you’re an awesome geek. This sounds like the start of a great day.
